The word ‘creative’ can instantly cause people to turn on or off, depending on what sort of people they are.
Many associate the word with art, drama or something similar, and because they don’t like these things, they automatically assume they are not creative.
However, being creative is not just about drawing an amazing picture which symbolises something deep and
meaningful. It can be that, but it is so much more. To me, creativity is original thinking; finding new ways of expression; starting something new and exciting.
So, this is what I meant in the title of this article; let’s try something new in worship to God. Now, a lot of people consider worship simply to be singing praise to God, and that’s great, but see what it says in Romans 12:1 (NLT):
And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice – the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.
The Bible says we’re to worship God with our lives, and so when we’re thinking about getting creative with worship, it doesn’t necessarily mean rapping your favourite worship song to a new beat. I have some friends who’ve decided they want to worship God through football. So, they pray before the game, they make sure their behaviour is godly on the pitch, and they spend time after praising God and thanking Him. Their lives are an act of worship, and people have noticed
that they play differently because they are expressing the Holy Spirit at work in them, and many have started playing with them and are getting to know about Jesus.
This is just an example of a group of friends getting a bit creative in their worship. I encourage you to get started and be as whacky as you like! I started my own creative prayer journal a while ago, and in it I write sketches, draw images, write prayers, to help me speak to God and glorify Him. It’s fun and it helps me worship our amazing God!
